Carbon emitted via voice or data activities are considered 'Scope 3' emissions which means it's almost impossible to ensure a completely carbon free surfing experience. When you visit other websites or send e-mails, we have no control over the fuel mix that powers and cools the third party servers. This makes it impossible to calculate the true carbon footprint of the internet but what we can do is take responsibility for what we do.
All of Eleven's services are hosted in data centres powered by renewable sources but we don't just stop there. We (well not us but people far more intelligent than us) estimate our clients carbon footprint through their activities involving our services. Every time a new customer joins us, we consider the number of employees that have access to a telephone and the internet whist carrying out their work and we offset that estimated amount annually for every year that they stay with us.
We believe that this is the first time that a telecom supplier that has ever taken responsibility for their clients carbon footprint whilst using their services and we think that this should be the norm.
